Shah Rukh Khan's Job Offer to Pakistani Crickter Wasim Akram After Rehab: Old Report Surfaces

Shah Rukh Khan offered a job to Wasim Akram after his stay at rehab for coc@i*e addiction

Shah Rukh Khan's Compassionate Offer to Wasim Akram Amidst Addiction Battle

Mumbai: Superstar Shah Rukh Khan, co-owner of the beloved Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) cricket team since 2008, has not only celebrated victories on the field but has also extended a hand of support off it. An intriguing chapter from the early days of the Indian Premier League (IPL) reveals Khan's compassionate gesture towards legendary Pakistani cricketer Wasim Akram.

In the initial seasons of the IPL, KKR offered Akram what was to be his "first senior coaching role anywhere" – the prestigious position of the team's bowling coach. However, this promising opportunity coincided with a deeply personal struggle for the celebrated cricketer.

As Akram candidly shared in his memoir, Sultan, the transition after his illustrious cricketing career ended led him down a dark path. The allure of excessive partying resulted in a dependence on
coc@i*e. "It started innocuously enough when I was offered a line at a party in England, but my use grew steadily more serious, to the point that I felt I needed it to function. It made me volatile. It made me deceptive," Akram wrote, laying bare his vulnerability.

During this challenging period, Akram recognized the impact his addiction had on his personal life. He acknowledged that his wife Huma "was often lonely" as they navigated life between Manchester and Lahore. While Huma yearned to move to Karachi to be closer to her family, Akram resisted, often using work as a pretext to travel to Karachi where he would spend days consumed by his addiction.

It was against this backdrop of personal turmoil that Shah Rukh Khan and the Kolkata Knight Riders offered Akram the coaching role. This job offer, a significant step in Akram's post-playing career, came at a time when he was at a rehabilitation center in Lahore, bravely confronting his addiction.

While the specifics of how Khan and KKR were aware of Akram's situation at the time aren't detailed in the excerpt, the offer itself speaks volumes. It suggests a level of understanding and belief in Akram's potential, even as he battled his demons.
