India may not have had a place at the ISU European Figure Skating Championships, 2016, that took place in Bratislava but Bollywood still made its presence felt at the Slovakian capital. Olympic champions Tatiana Volosozhar and Maxim Trankov of Russia on Saturday performed their figure skating routine to Nagada sang dhol from Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s movie Goliyon Ki Rasleela… Ram Leela. And the duo’s amazing performance impressed the judges so much that the duo went on to win the gold medal!

Volosozhar/ Trankov scored 142.89 points and racked up 222.66 points overall to win their fourth European Paris title, Xinhua reported.
"It was a very hard start to the day. We had an early practice then we stayed here in the rink before the free program because we had no time to go to the hotel," said Trankov. "Most importantly, we won and we finished our programme. We lost some levels having some little mistakes. But, by the way, with all the problems we had before, I think this was quite a good free program for us."
It definitely was for Bollywood fans as they watched the duo do lifts, spins and create sheer poetry on ice with moves that we would think twice before risking on firm land. Very different than Deepika Padukone in the original and one can even say, much better!
Of course this is not the first time a Bollywood song has found its way on to an international figure skating championship. American skaters Meryl Davis and Charlie White have earlier danced to a medley of songs (Kajra Re from Bunty Aur Babli, Silsila yeh chahat ka and Dola re from Devdas) at the Vancouver Olympic Ice Dancing Competition in 2010. But there is just something about the Russians’ performance that holds you captivated till the end.
