Shashi Taroor's Ex-First Wife Tilottama Mukherji (or Tilottama Tharoor), is a New York-based academic. Tilottama is currently a professor of humanities at New York University. She is known to be a prominent figure in intellectual circles in both Kolkata and New York. Shashi Taroor and Tilottama Mukherji met during their college years at St. Stephen’s in Delhi. They married in 1981 and later divorced. They have two sons, Kanishk Tharoor and Ishaan Tharoor. Kanishk and Ishaan are Twins. Both Sons have pursued careers in journalism and writing. Tilottama has been seen at some literary events, book launches, and film festivals, likely due to her academic background and interest in literature and the arts.

Tharoor and Tilottama were divorced at some point. In 2007 Tharoor married Christa Giles (View Pictures of Christa Here), a Canadian diplomat working at the United Nations. This marriage was short-lived. Tharoor next married Dubai-based businesswoman a Kashmiri Pandit Sunanda Pushkar (View Pictures and Details of Shashi-sunanda Wedding here) at his ancestral home in Elavanchery village in Kerala's Palakkad district on 22 August 2010. He became her third husband and step-father to her son Shiv Menon, born of a previous marriage. On 17 January 2014, Pushkar (aged 51) died at The Leela Hotel in Chanakyapuri, New Delhi, under mysterious circumstances.
