Dilip Kumar’s birthday: Amitabh Bachchan, Lata Mangeshkar, Dharmendra wish the actor on Twitter
Bollywood star Amitabh Bachchan has shared a throwback picture, wishing his Shakti co-star Dilip Kumar on his 95th birthday.
Sharing a picture that shows Dilip in a candid mood as Raj Kapoor tries his hands at harmonium, Amitabh wrote late Sunday, “T 2737 - Two maestros ! Iconic picture .. Raj Kapoor and Dilip Kumar making music !! Love and admiration .. for their immense contribution to Indian Cinema”
The celebrations for Dilip Kumar's 95th birthday on Monday will include some of his relatives and close friends, but will be restricted as the legendary actor has just been treated for mild pneumonia, said his wife Saira Banu.
Lata Mangeshkar also took to Twitter to wish her ‘rakhi brother. Sharing Dilip’s song Madhuban Mein Radhika, she wrote, “Namaskar.Aaj mere rakhi bhai Yusuf Khan (Dilip Kumar) sahab 95 saal ke ho rahe hain.Main unko bahut badhaai deti hun,wo hamesha swasth rahein aur unki aayu lambi ho yehi meri Ishwar se prarthana. https://youtu.be/8NzSyyOX0yo @TheDilipKumar .”
Dharmendra also extended his warm wishes for the birthday boy. “Happy Birthday to my loving brother and a darling actor @TheDilipKumar, who inspired me to become an actor!!” he wrote.
Filmmaker Subhash Ghai tweeted, “Happy birthday n prayers for My ideal my hero my favourite #Dilip kumar @TheDilipKumar I learnt so much from him while directing him in #vidhata #karma #saudagar all blockbusters n deeper experience to know art of screen acting in relation with writer director of a film”
Several other actors also took to Twitter and wished the veteran actor.
West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee also tweeted her wishes for Dilip Kumar. “Wishing the legendary actor @TheDilipKumar ji a very happy birthday,” she wrote.
Dilip Kumar is recuperating from pneumonia. On his birthday, a stream of visitors visited into their bungalow in Bandra, Mumbai, early Monday morning. Saira Banu, who has been by his side constantly, shared plans for Dilip Kumar's birthday via Twitter. "Every year on Saab's birthday our house is open all day for friends and family to come and spend quality time with Dilip Saab. But tomorrow will be (a) bit restricted as doctors have advised Saab to be protected from any infection," read a post on behalf of Saira Banu from Dilip Kumar's official Twitter handle.
Also known as the Tragedy King of Bollywood, Dilip has acted in over 65 films and is best known for his iconic roles in movies like Devdas (1955), Naya Daur (1957), Mughal-e-Azam (1960), Ganga Jamuna (1961), Kranti (1981), and Karma (1986).
Last seen on the big screen in Qila in 1998, the actor was honoured with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 1994 and the Padma Vibhushan in 2015.
