Initial Box Office Report: Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari

Initial Box Office Report: Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari

The Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor starrer romantic comedy, Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari (SSKTK), opened to a moderate start at the box office on October 2nd, facing stiff competition from the pan-India epic Kantara: A Legend - Chapter 1.

The film, directed by Shashank Khaitan and backed by Dharma Productions, was released on the auspicious national holiday of Dussehra, a period traditionally favorable for family entertainers.

Opening Day Collections

Estimated Day 1 Collection (India Net):

Early estimates for the opening day vary, with reports suggesting the film earned a net collection in the range of ₹7 Crore to ₹9.2 Crore across India. One early tracker report pegged the number at approximately ₹7.01 Crore net.

Performance vs. Projections:

The film was initially projected by trade analysts to open in the range of ₹8 Crore to ₹12 Crore. The final opening day figure is expected to land at the lower end of or slightly below those initial optimistic projections.

Advance Booking and Competition

Advance Sales:

Despite being a major Bollywood production, the film’s advance booking figures were subdued compared to its competitor. SSKTK sold approximately 81,000 tickets and generated a gross advance booking of around ₹2.86 Crore (excluding block seats).

The Clash:

The biggest factor impacting SSKTK's performance was its direct clash with the highly-anticipated prequel, Kantara: A Legend - Chapter 1. The Epic action-drama took a massive opening, reportedly earning a net collection several times higher than the Bollywood rom-com.

For comparison, while SSKTK was earning in the single-digit crores, Kantara: A Legend - Chapter 1 was reported to have crossed the ₹50 Crore net mark on its opening day.

Occupancy:

Initial reports indicated an overall Hindi occupancy for SSKTK in the range of 14% to 32%, with evening and night shows showing an expected boost due to the holiday.

Verdict

Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari took an opening that was considered moderate given the holiday release and its star cast. Its box office run will now heavily depend on positive word-of-mouth over the extended holiday weekend to sustain collections and emerge successful, especially while navigating the massive competition posed by Kantara: A Legend - Chapter 1.
