Paparazzi Threaten Boycott of Bachchan Family After Jaya Bachchan's 'Gandi Pant' Comment

Agastya Nanda's Ikkis Promotion at Risk: Paparazzi Boycott Jaya Bachchan & Family

Actor and Member of Parliament, Jaya Bachchan, has ignited a major controversy with her recent, pointed comments about the paparazzi, leading to a unified call for a boycott of her entire family, including her grandson, Agastya Nanda, ahead of his crucial film promotion cycle.

The long-simmering friction between Bachchan and the photographers hit a boiling point after her remarks at a recent event, where she questioned the paparazzi’s professionalism, education, and attire.

Jaya Bachchan's ‘Gandi Pant’ Comment That Sparked the Boycott

Speaking at the 'We The Women' event, Jaya Bachchan differentiated between traditional media and photojournalists, stating her relationship with the paparazzi was "zero."

She then delivered the comment that fueled the outrage:

"But yeh jo bahar drainpipe tight, gande gande pant pehen ke, haath mein mobile leke... they think that because they have a mobile, they can take your picture and say what they want. And the kind of comments they pass-what kind of people are these? Where do they come from? What kind of education do they have?"

The comment was widely slammed as being classist and snobbish by fellow media professionals and observers.

The Paparazzi’s Response to Jaya Bachchan's Gandi Pant Comments: Threatening 'Ikkis' Promotions

Leading paparazzi photographers, including Pallav Paliwal and Varinder Chawla, immediately hit back, accusing Jaya Bachchan of disrespecting their profession and livelihood. They pointed out the immense irony of her timing, given the upcoming career milestone of her grandson:

The 'Ikkis' Warning: Photographer Pallav Paliwal directly questioned the Bachchan family’s promotional strategy, stating, "It's unfortunate what she said. Her grandson Agastya's film Ikkis is going to be released. What if the paps don't come to cover the promotions? If Jaya ji can promote Agastya's film without paps, on her own, by posting on her social media pages, then okay."

The Amitabh Bachchan Factor: Another photographer, Varinder Chawla, recalled instances of showing respect to the Bachchan family, specifically mentioning that the paparazzi are the primary source of coverage for Amitabh Bachchan’s weekly Sunday darshans, where "no leading media covers it, it’s us paps."

The Boycott Call: Chawla confirmed the collective decision, stating he advised his colleagues to maintain their dignity: "I told my colleagues apni self respect rakhte hain, aur inko boycott karte hain (we should keep our self-respect and boycott them)."

The photographers argued that in the digital age, their content acts as the fastest medium, far outpacing traditional print or electronic outlets, making their coverage crucial for the visibility of any new project, particularly the launch of a new star like Agastya Nanda in his film Ikkis.

The boycott threat places the Bachchan family and the makers of Ikkis in a tight spot, as film promotions rely heavily on the visual media coverage provided by the very paparazzi community that has now decided to stand its ground.
