Tees Maar Khan Falls Heavily On Monday in Box Office Collections

Tees Maar Khan fell heavily on Monday as it grossed only around 4.50 crore nett which is around 65% lower than its Friday business which was around 13 crore. All circuits fell across the board with Mumbai being worst at around 70% fall while East Punjab and CI recording smallest falls at around 60%.

Okay, it's more than evident that TEES MAAR KHAN has emerged a tees maar disappointment. In terms of audience feedback. Also in terms of box-office numbers. The reactions to the film vary from achchi hain [a tiny minority] to theek hain [again, a minority] to mazaa nahin aaya [the majority has given it thumbs down].

The tremendous hype surrounding the film + Christmas period + extensive release strategy [the film was released at a record 2100 screens in India] + escalated ticket rates at most cineplexes should've ensured a bountiful Rs. 45 cr. to Rs. 50 cr. nett opening for the film, but the weekend numbers [Rs. 38.25 cr. nett] clearly indicates that TEES MAAR KHAN hasn't lived up to the expectations. The cracks in business were visible on Saturday itself, when several plexes reported lesser numbers than Friday.

The film is now looking at a 51-52 crore nett first week which is a huge disappointment considering the weekend business.

A big film carries the baggage of big expectations and TEES MAAR KHAN is no exception. Not only are big names attached to it, the film was also picked up for a big price. It has cost UTV approx. Rs. 67 cr. [includes P & A], of which Rs. 22 cr. has come in from Satellite and another Rs. 8 cr. was recovered from Music. Which means UTV has to recover the balance amount [Rs. 37 cr.] from India and Overseas theatrical and Home Video. Given the fall in its business from Monday onwards, UTV will barely recover its investment, depending on how the film fares in the coming days.

It has no competition next week so it will keep most of its screen space as exhibitors have no alternative but the problem is if the weekdays keep on dropping heavily then collections will be at low levels by then. A holiday on Saturday could give it small respite from dropping collections.

Tees Maar Khan Weekend Box Office Collections Report, Review

Tees Maar Khan grosssed 38 crore nett on its first weekend at the box office as per early estimates. The weekend is lower than Dabangg (48 Crore) but the expectations were such from the film that a bigger weekend was expected.

The approx daily breakdowns were 13 crore nett on Friday, 13.25 crore nett on Saturday and 11.75 crore nett on Sunday.

The major disappointment was that the film did not get that holiday jump on Saturday but on the other hand the Sunday drop was not as big as it could have been considering the negative reports.

The week should finish at 55-56 crore nett if the weekdays go as per normal industry standards of adding around 45% of your weekend business on weekdays. There is a lot of negativity around the film in the trade and media but the expected huge crash did not come on Sunday and it may also be a normal Monday rather than a crash.

Saturday Box Office Collections For Tees Maar Khan BO Report Update

Tees Maar Khan managed to show a very small jump in its business on Saturday. Normally on a holiday it would have been expected to go up around 15% but in the case of TMK the jump was less than 5% perhaps due to negative reports. The collection on Saturday was an approx 13.50 crore nett. The two day total is 26.50 crore nett approx.


Major circuits like Mumbai, Delhi/UP, East Punjab and West Bengal showed small jumps while single screens circuits like CP Berar, CI and Rajasthan showed small falls.

Sunday is likely to see a fall as is normally the case after a big holiday and it remains to be seen how big the fall is depending on word of mouth. The weekend business is now looking to be in the 36-38 crore nett region depending on what happens on Sunday.

The history of this video:

In April 2009 a short video was created by two Indians, showing an Indian version of Jingle Bells. The song has been sped up, and is accompanied by cartoon graphics. The creators are Nupur Bhargava (video) and Amartya Rahut (music). It was uploaded by Youtube user Rake5hOne. After some early positive feedback, it went unnoticed for months, until it was rediscovered early December 2009. The short video has since then be posted on several well known webpages and received much success. On December 18, it had been viewed over 61,000 times. The creators of this video refer to the Jingle Bells version as Punjabi Tadka style.

Box Office Report of Tees Maar Khan: Tees Maar Khan Takes a Huge Opening at the box office but the reports about the film are negative


Tees Maar Khan took a great opening at the box office across the country but the reports are not good. The film is a hit on the strength of its opening but whether it becomes a blockbuster is in doubt as collections in the evening at places could not keep up with its bombastic start in the morning. Saturday is a holiday which could help but Sunday will tell where the film is going. Another plus is two weeks of no competition.

The other two releases of the week, Toonpur Ka Superrhero and Isi Life Mein had very dull collections and could not register at the box office due to the Tees Maar Khan wave.

7 Khoon Maaf, is based on the Ruskin Bond book, Susanna's Seven Husbands. In this film, Priyanka Chopra's character ages from 20-65 and will be seen going through seven different age makeovers as wife of seven different aged men at different stages of her life. Director Vishal Bhardwaj has hired renowned Academy Award winning, Hollywood special make-up effects artist, Greg Cannom of The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (2008), to create those seven different looks for Priyanka's role in the film. And out of those the most challenging one was that of the 65-year-old woman, for which the make-up team has used Priyanka's grandmother’s photo to try and make her look as close to her as possible. During the whole process, Priyanka has literally not eaten or not drunk anything for hours thereby starving herself during the shoot that involved prosthetics. Firstly, the make-up takes five long hours at least, to get right. So, it would begin at some wee hour in the morning to get it done by 10 or 11 am. Post that, till the shoot ended, Priyanka could not eat anything, as that would damage the make-up, but she pulled it through because on screen it was looking good and she trusts Vishal to a T. And the final results were so compelling, that even Priyanka's own father couldn't recognise her. Vishal also wanted Priyanka to put on some weight to fit the bill of the character.

Spilling the beans on popular chat show Koffee With Karan has become more the norm than the exception.

The latest news from the sets is that Lara Dutta and fiance Mahesh Bhupathi have confessed to KJo that they plan to tie the knot in February next year.

Says our source, "Lara and Hesh appeared on the show on Wednesday night. When the KWK host quizzed them about their relationship and romance, they spoke openly and even discussed marriage plans.

When Karan asked them outright about the marriage date, they promptly replied that it would be in February 2011 and that their families were in the process of fixing the date.

Lara even told KJo how the tennis ace proposed to her in New York on Sept 12 this year."


The couple even replied to queries regarding past relationships. Bhupathi was claimed to be the reason behind the actress dumping Dino Morea while some reports even said Lara was responsible for the divorce of Hesh and model Shwetha Jaishankar.

"They spoke candidly about their respective exes and cleared the air on how those relationships were over before theirs started," reveals our source.

Dutta has been previously linked to model Kelly Dorje.

She has been seeing Bhupathi for the last year, ever since the doubles specialist separated from his wife in '09. Mahesh announced the engagement on his Twitter page.

The jodi got engaged when Hesh was in New York for the US Open and Lara was there for a magazine photo shoot.

Bhupathi's Big Daddy Productions and Lara's Bheegi Basanti Production are co-producing Challo Dilli along with Eros International. Recently, the first shooting schedule was completed last month.

After Lara and Mahesh announced their engagement in September, Lara's publicist had told the media that the actress was starting work on Farhan Akhtar's Don 2, so there were no plans for a wedding for the next couple of years.
