Wedding Bells or Nightmares? Ginny Weds Sunny 2 and The Wardrobe Lead This Week’s Releases

What to Watch This Weekend: Your Guide to the Big April 24 Box Office Clash: Can ‘Ginny Weds Sunny 2’ Recreate the Rom-Com Magic Against ‘The Wardrobe’? Avinash Tiwary and Medha Shankar Are Giving Us Major Goals in Ginny Weds Sunny 2.

With the box office currently being dominated by the massive "Dhurandhar 2" wave, you’d think other filmmakers would be scared to release anything right now. But this Friday, April 24, we’ve got a fascinating clash of genres that proves there’s still plenty of room for mid-budget cinema to breathe.

Whether you’re in the mood for a lighthearted "big fat Indian wedding" or a psychological chill that keeps you up at night, the coming weekend has a little something for everyone.

The Spiritual Successor: Ginny Weds Sunny 2

First up is the one everyone’s talking about-Ginny Weds Sunny 2. Now, before you ask, this isn't a direct continuation of the first film’s story. It’s a spiritual sequel, following the same "vibe" of chaotic matchmaking and catchy Punjabi beats.

This time around, we have a fresh pairing that I’m personally very excited to see: Avinash Tiwary and Medha Shankar. Avinash has consistently proven he’s one of the most versatile actors in the industry, and coming off the back of 12th Fail, Medha has that "girl next door" charm that fits this franchise perfectly. If the chemistry in the trailer is anything to go by, we might just have the rom-com hit of the summer on our hands. Expect plenty of Delhi humor, overbearing parents, and at least one chart-buster remix.

Something Sinister: The Wardrobe

If you’re tired of the "naach-gaana" and want something that gets under your skin, The Wardrobe is looking like the dark horse of the week.

Supernatural thrillers in Bollywood can be hit or miss, but the buzz around this one feels different. The teaser dropped a few weeks ago and it was refreshingly light on jump-scares and heavy on atmosphere. It’s being marketed as a "contained" psychological horror, focusing on a family that moves into a heritage home with—you guessed it—a piece of furniture that has a very disturbing history. It’s a smart counter-programming move; while half the audience is watching Avinash and Medha dance, the other half will be hiding behind their popcorn buckets.

The Box Office Verdict

It’s a tough week for any new release to find its footing while the bigger blockbusters are still raking in triple digits. However, mid-budget films like these live and die by their Sunday growth.

Ginny Weds Sunny 2 has the advantage of being a family-friendly entertainer, making it the go-to pick for the Saturday night mall crowd. On the other hand, The Wardrobe will rely heavily on the late-night shows and the "word-of-mouth" factor that horror fans are famous for.
