After Zaira Wasim, the 17-year-old star of films like Dangal and Secret Superstar, took to social media to recount the horror of allegedly being subjected to sexual harassment on a Mumbai-bound flight, the wife of the accused molester backed her husband, terming the entire incident a publicity stunt on the actor’s part.
“We as a family are completely shattered. Nobody values will do such a thing. My father is an ex-army officer and my husband is an income tax officer’s son. We respect women. She is making an allegation for publicity to get the limelight. And for her limelight, we are in a thick soup. Last night, we were running around because of this," Divya Sachdeva told CNN-News18, over a telephonic interview.
She said that the family had gone for her husband’s uncle's prayer meeting and her husband was asleep the throughout the flight as he was exhausted and shocked by the death of his relative.
“He had gone for the condolence prayer of his real mama. He was in trauma and shock. He was exhausted and just wanted to sleep. He put his feet up to rest. It’s impossible to brush her. He was sleeping throughout the flight. Just before landing Zaira Wasim said why don’t you keep your legs on my head. And that’s when he realized his legs touched her hand by mistake. He just wanted to have a good sleep for two hours,” she said.
She added that people shouldn’t jump to conclusions without listening to both sides of the story. “Every time women needn’t be right. Men can be innocent too. People should listen to both sides. He may not be allowed to fly again if it’s proven that he is wrong. Tables will change.”
She also said that they’ve hired a lawyer to do the needful.
The Mumbai police had arrested the man on Sunday night after Zaira recorded an Instagram video sharing the horror. She said, “This is not done, I am disturbed… Is this how you’re going to take care of girls? This is not the way anybody should be made to feel this is terrible!”
Zaira also expressed her disappointment at Vistara’s cabin crew, saying they had failed to help her.
