Dosanjh’s Performance Garners Global Recognition

Diljit Dosanjh's powerful and authentic performance as the iconic Punjabi folk singer, Amar Singh Chamkila, has been universally lauded since the film's release on Netflix in April 2024. The film chronicles the short but explosive life of the "Elvis of Punjab," who rose from humble beginnings to superstardom with his bold, often controversial, lyrics before his tragic assassination in 1988 at the age of 27.

Dosanjh's nomination places him among a competitive field of international talent, including David Mitchell (Ludwig - UK), Oriol Pla (Yo, Adicto - Spain), and Diego Vasquez (One Hundred Years of Solitude - Colombia).

Imtiaz Ali Credits the Land and the Artist

Filmmaker Imtiaz Ali, who directed and co-wrote the critically celebrated film, expressed immense pride in the double nomination, crediting the original legend.

Reacting to the news, Imtiaz Ali said, "We are all very happy that we could bring the story of Chamkila, such a unique individual, to the fore. In the excitement of these nominations, the first name that comes to mind is Chamkila. I would like to congratulate Diljit Dosanjh twice over because he's also nominated in the Best Actor category... We could not have made the film without Diljit, and not for a moment on the shoot was he not Chamkila."

A Musical Triumph on the Global Stage

Amar Singh Chamkila, which also stars Parineeti Chopra as Chamkila's wife and singing partner Amarjot Kaur, stood out for its unique blend of social commentary and musical brilliance, featuring a compelling soundtrack composed by Oscar and Grammy-winning A.R. Rahman. The film’s selection for the TV Movie/Mini-Series category highlights the growing global appeal of Indian narratives and the depth of regional storytelling.

The nominations continue a trend of increased recognition for Indian content at the International Emmys, following wins for Delhi Crime and comedian Vir Das in previous years.
