"She said, 'If Mela doesn't work, I will marry you,'" Akshay recalled with a laugh. "She was so confident because it was an Aamir Khan film, and directed by Dharmesh Darshan. Everyone believed it would be a huge hit."
As fate would have it, Mela did not fare well at the box office, becoming a commercial failure. And as per the agreement, Twinkle honored her word, and the couple got married in a low-key, intimate ceremony with just 50 guests.
Akshay, with his characteristic wit, humorously apologized to Aamir Khan for the film's poor performance, while also expressing his gratitude. "Sorry Aamir Khan sahab, your film didn't work.
