Ashish Chaudhary's Sister Monica Chhabria and Her Husband Ajit's Funeral Photographs.
The who's who of the business world and film industry got together for a solemn occasion at Walkeshwar on Saturday evening. They were there to pay tribute to four victims of the terrorist attacks, whose bodies were consigned to flames at the Banganga crematorium
The first of the funerals was that of Pankaj Shah, promoter of Satellite, a leading construction group. The body was brought for the last rites around 3.15 pm.
Ten minutes later followed the next two funerals, those of actor Ashish Chaudhary's sister Monica Chhabria and her husband Ajit.
Not long after, the mortal remains of Ashok Kapoor, non-executive chairman of Yes Bank, was brought to Banganga.
Among the mourners were Priyanka Chopra, Riteish Deshmukh, Zayed Khan, Rima Sen, Sohail Khan, Aftab Shivdasani, Isha Koppikar, Vinod Khanna, Shyam Benegal, theatre personality Dolly Thakore, Cyrus Bharucha and Hafeez Contractor.
The crematorium has metal enclosures to accommodate four funerals, and around 4.15 pm, all four pyres were burning. The mourners had packed the crematorium, and many residents of nearby slums also gathered in a corner to catch glimpses of them.
Tushar Makwana, a Vile Parle resident who had come to pay homage to Pankaj Shah said: "Pankajbhai always helped people in need. I'm not a relative. But he once provided me with financial assistance. I feel it's my duty to stand by his family in such a difficult time."
Vijay Nair and Captain Vijay Shivdasani, school friends of Ashok Kapoor, were also there. "Politicians should stop vote bank politics. It is high time they take strong steps to combat terrorism," said Nair who had flown from Delhi.
