Contrary to expectations, there were very few people to catch a glimpse of actor Shah Rukh Khan, as he underwent a shoulder surgery at the Breach Candy Hospital yesterday.
A fruit stall owner near the hospital said that even though nearby establishments had braced themselves for an onslaught of fans, there were far fewer fans than they had expected.
"All that I saw were media vans and some fans. It was nothing like what we saw on TV for Amitabh Bachchan. I guess people want to watch Shah Rukh's progress on television," said Gulab Gupta, a vendor.
"Shah Rukh needs to avoid strenuous physical activity for six months if he wants to make a complete recovery," said Dr Sanjay Desai who operated on him at Breach Candy Hospital.
Speaking to MiD DAY, Desai said that the actor underwent arthroscopic, or minimally invasive keyhole surgery to repair the torn tendon in his left shoulder. He added that Shah Rukh may have to wear a sling for a few weeks to restrict movement.
Desai who has operated on other bigwigs, said that as a doctor he had to remain completely focused through surgery.
"I also got several requests from friends and family for autographs and delivery of personal messages, but I had to turn down everyone politely," said Desai.
