A R Rahman Had a Close Shave With Death Due to An Accident During Oscar Rehearsals

While all the hoopla and euphoria surrounding A R Rahman's double Oscar has been talked about, no one knows that the composer had a close shave with death during the rehearsals for his stage performance for the Oscars. This came to light after Rahman's return to India yesterday.

Split-second move

Recalling the nerve-wracking experience Rahman says, "I really don't know what happened. Two days before the Oscars, we were rehearsing at one of the theatres for the Oscars, the Jay Leno Show and the Oprah Winfrey Show; when a massive chandelier, covering a portion of the ceiling crashed on the spot a split second after I moved away."

Rahman recounts, "If I hadn't moved away, I'd have become history after making history in no time at all. The incident left me shaken but not terrified. I guess it was God's warning not to take any of the good things happening to me too seriously."

Rude reminder

Sighing in relief Rahman says, "As I walked from the left side of the stage to the right I could feel a heavy drop from the air, like water rushing down from a height of 30 to 40 feet. So with the good came the rude reminder of how quickly it can all be snatched away."

Says Rahman, "When I did Oprah Winfrey's show for the Oscars, she asked me what Jai Ho meant. I said it meant, 'May victory be yours.' She wished the same back for me and I could see she meant it. It's the best wishes the world over that saved my life that day."

Salman Khan Issued Supreme Court Notice On Acquittal In Chinkara Poaching Case Actor Salman Khan was today issued notice by the Supreme Court on an appeal by the Rajasthan government challenging his acquittal in two poaching cases. In July, the Rajasthan High Court found the 50-year-old actor not guilty of killing an endangered species of gazelle or chinkara in two separate incidents in 1998 while he was shooting a film in the desert state. The state government challenged his acquittal; it wants him to be imprisoned to serve the rest of his sentence - after being convicted in 2007 for hunting down and killing the chinkaras, he was awarded a one-year prison term and a five-year prison term respectively. He then spent a week in jail in Jodhpur before being granted bail. While finding him not guilty, the High Court had said there was no evidence to prove that the animals who were found dead were shot by Mr Khan's licensed gun. Box Office Report of Dum Maro Dum : 'Dum Maaro Dum' opens to dull houses. Despite the fact that Friday is a National Holiday, DUM MAARO DUM opened below the mark at the box office in the first and afternoon shows on friday morning at major centres of the country. Of course, the opening trends of DUM MAARO DUM were better than Abhishek Bachchan's last release GAME, but that's no compliment. The occupancy at multiplexes was slightly better, especially at metros, in 30% to 35% range, while single screens were between 10% - 15% - 20%. The average opening, thus, stands at 25% - 30%, which is poor. In view of the fact that it's a National Holiday, the morning and noon shows of DUM MAARO DUM should've started on 50% - 60% note at least.
