"We Will Hunt Them to the Ends of the Earth": PM Modi's Strong Response to Pahalgam Terror Attack

Prime Minister Modi said the terrorists who carried out the Pahalgam attack and those who plotted it would "get a punishment they cannot imagine".

Following the deadly terrorist attack in Pahalgam, which claimed the lives of 26 people, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has issued a firm and resolute response, vowing decisive action against the perpetrators and their backers. His response has encompassed strong statements, concrete actions, and diplomatic outreach.

Strong Condemnation and Vow of Retribution

In his first public address after the attack, delivered in Bihar, PM Modi expressed the nation's grief and anger, stating that the terrorists responsible would face punishment "beyond their imagination." He declared, "India will identify, track, and punish every terrorist and their backers. We will pursue them to the ends of the Earth. India's spirit will never be broken by terrorism." He emphasized that the attack was not just on innocent tourists but "an attack on the soul of India."

"The whole country is with the bereaved families. The government is trying its best to ensure the well-being of those injured. Someone has lost a son, someone has lost a brother, someone has lost a life partner. Someone spoke Bengali, someone spoke Kannada, someone was Marathi, someone was Odia, someone was Gujarati and someone was Bihar's son.

"From Kargil to Kanyakumari, there is grief and rage. This attack was not just on innocent tourists; the country's enemies have shown the audacity to attack India's soul," the Prime Minister said.

The Prime Minister said the terrorists who carried out the attack and those who plotted it would "get a punishment they cannot imagine". "The time has come to raze whatever is left of the terror haven. The will of 140 crores Indians will break the back of the masters of terror," he said, his words directed at Pakistan, which backs acts of terror on Indian soil.

Shifting to English, clearly to send a message across the globe, the Prime Minister said, "I say to the whole world. India will identify, track, and punish every terrorist and their backers. We will pursue them to the ends of the earth. India's spirit will never be broken by terrorism. Terrorism will not go unpunished. Every effort will be made to ensure that justice is done. The entire nation is firm in this resolve. Everyone who believes in humanity is with us. I thank the people of various countries and their leaders who have stood with us in this time," he said.

The Prime Minister, who was visiting Saudi Arabia, cut short his trip and returned after the attack on Tuesday afternoon. In his first response to the heinous attack, the worst in Kashmir in the recent past, the Prime Minister had said those behind it won't be spared.

Concrete Actions and Diplomatic Measures

  • Under PM Modi's direction, the Indian government has taken several significant steps:
  • Suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty: India has informed Pakistan that it is holding the Indus Waters Treaty in abeyance, citing Pakistan's breach of the treaty conditions through its support of cross-border terrorism.
  • Closure of the Attari-Wagah Border: The Integrated Check Post at Attari, the main land border crossing between India and Pakistan, has been shut down.
  • Downgrading Diplomatic Ties: India has reduced the staff at its High Commission in Islamabad and expelled Pakistani military officials. Pakistani nationals are also barred from traveling to India under the SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme.
  • Enhanced Security Measures: Security forces have been placed on high alert, and a thorough investigation into the attack is underway.
International Response and Support

PM Modi has also engaged in diplomatic efforts to garner international support. He has briefed foreign envoys on India's position and planned actions. Several world leaders have condemned the attack and expressed solidarity with India, including:

US President: Offered full support to India in bringing the perpetrators to justice.

French President: Conveyed thoughts and prayers for the victims and offered support in the fight against terrorism.

Call for National Unity

PM Modi has emphasized the need for national unity in the face of terrorism, urging the country to stand together against those who seek to divide it. He has assured the nation that the government is committed to ensuring the well-being of those injured and providing support to the bereaved families.

The Prime Minister's strong words and decisive actions reflect India's determination to combat terrorism and hold those responsible for the Pahalgam attack accountable. The situation remains fluid, and further actions may be taken as investigations continue.
