A new and complicated turn has emerged in the ongoing case of Major (Retd.) Vikrant Kumar Jaitly's detention in the UAE, as Bollywood actor Celina Jaitly's legal efforts are now being publicly challenged by her sister-in-law's legal counsel. The dispute centers on claims of lack of consultation and questions over the actor's actions in the long-running detention case of her brother.Picture: Celina Jaitly With Brother Major (Retd.) Major Jaitly, a retired Indian Army officer, has been in custody in Abu Dhabi, UAE, since September 2024 over alleged "national security and cyber issues" relating to companies he may have been involved with.
Sister-in-Law Charul Jaitly's Lawyer Alleges Lack of Consultation in Legal Moves
Advocate Sudhanshu Pandey, representing Vikrant Jaitly's wife, Charul Jaitly, has countered Celina Jaitly's recent legal actions, which led to a Delhi High Court order directing the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) to facilitate communication between the siblings. In his statement, the lawyer claimed that Charul Jaitly had already been deeply involved in pursuing the case with the MEA and had secured consular access for her husband. He pointedly questioned the actor's decision to proceed with her own petition without consulting the immediate family.
"While Charul was never informed by Celina that she had decided to take any legal recourse in this matter, it would have been better if she had consulted Charul," Advocate Pandey stated, further adding, "If this was something motivated by genuine concern for her brother, she should have consulted us."
Claims of 'No Visible Help' in Initial Days
Adding fuel to the family rift, Charul Jaitly’s counsel also alleged that Celina Jaitly did not offer "any visible help" when she was first approached by her sister-in-law regarding Vikrant's detention in September 2024.

Court's Directive Amid Family Tensions
The legal battle in the Delhi High Court, filed by Celina Jaitly, remains a central focus of the case. The court had recently directed the MEA to:Appoint a Nodal Officer to coordinate communication with UAE authorities.
Facilitate Communication between Celina and her brother, ensuring he is informed of her wish to speak with him during the next consular visit.
Despite the court's positive intervention for Celina, the public disagreement highlights a growing rift between the two family members as they fight for the welfare of Major Jaitly, who took premature retirement from the Army in 2016-17 and was working in Dubai at the time of his detention. The case is scheduled for a fresh hearing on December 23, 2025.
