A Touching Tribute and Emotional Speech
The prayer meet was the second organized by Hema Malini's side of the family, following a smaller ceremony held at their home shortly after the veteran actor's demise. The Delhi event was a public demonstration of remembrance, featuring an emotional address by Hema Malini.
The actress-politician, visibly teary-eyed, spoke about her 57-year-long companionship with Dharmendra, affirming the strength of their relationship that withstood the test of time.
"The person with whom I enacted love scenes in films became my life partner. Our love was true, so we had the courage to face any situation," Hema Malini said. "He became a devoted husband to me. He was a pillar of support and stood by me at every step of my life."
Standing by her side were her daughters, Esha Deol and Ahana Deol, who offered quiet support as their mother paid tribute to the man who was their "greatest strength." Esha Deol's former husband, Bharat Takhtani, also attended the service to pay his respects.
The Unfinished Dream
During her address, Hema Malini revealed one of Dharmendra's most cherished and unfinished dreams: writing a book of his poetry.
"He was very serious about it and was planning everything, but woh kaam par adhura reh gaya (that work is left unfinished)," she shared, adding that his natural flair for Urdu Shayari was a hidden aspect of his personality his fans would have loved to see published.
Political and Star-Studded Attendance
The stature of Dharmendra, a former Member of Parliament, and Hema Malini, a sitting MP, ensured a large turnout from India's political elite. Notable attendees included:
Union Home Minister Amit Shah
Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman
Union Minister Kiren Rijiju
BJP MP Kangana Ranaut
Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta

The presence of such high-ranking officials and prominent figures from both Bollywood and politics highlighted the broad impact of Dharmendra's life and career across different sectors of Indian society.
