Maithili Thakur's Early Life and Musical Training

Maithili Thakur was born in Benipatti, Madhubani district, Bihar, into a family steeped in music. Her father, Ramesh Thakur, is a musician and music teacher. Her training began at an early age, first under her grandfather and then her father, in Maithili folk and Hindustani classical music, including instruments like the harmonium and tabla.

Recognizing their daughter's potential around the age of six, her family relocated to Dwarka in New Delhi to seek better musical opportunities. She pursued her formal education alongside her musical training, completing a B.A. Program from Bharti College, Delhi University, in 2022.

Maithili Thakur's Musical Career and Rise to Fame

Thakur's musical journey began with appearances on reality television. She participated in Little Champs (Zee TV) in 2011 and Indian Idol Junior (Sony TV) four years later.

Her major breakthrough came in 2017 when she was the first finalist and ultimately the runner-up of the singing reality show Rising Star India on Colors TV. Following this, her fame skyrocketed through online platforms like YouTube and Facebook, where she and her two younger brothers, Rishav Thakur (on tabla) and Ayachi Thakur (in accompaniment), share renditions of traditional folk songs and devotional music.
