Marriage is 'Outdated': A Grandmother's Progressive View

During her conversation at the event, Bachchan was asked directly whether she found the institution of marriage to be irrelevant in today's world.

She responded with a firm "Yes, absolutely," before sharing her advice for her granddaughter, who is set to turn 28 soon.

"I don't want Navya to get married. I am a grandmother now... I am too old to advise young girls on how to bring up children. Things have changed so much, and today little children are so smart, they will outsmart you."

Bachchan emphasized that the younger generation is more aware, independent, and capable of making informed choices than her generation was. She stressed that emotional security and compatibility do not necessarily require legal validation in a relationship anymore.

The 'Delhi Ka Laddoo' Analogy

To humorously drive her point home, the veteran actor compared marriage to the famous saying, "Delhi ka laddoo" (a traditional Indian sweet).

"Woh Delhi ka laddoo hai—khao toh mushkil, na khao toh bhi mushkil. Either way, it's difficult. But just enjoy life!"

This analogy suggested that both choosing to marry and choosing to remain single come with their own set of challenges, and ultimately, young people should prioritize personal happiness over societal pressure or legal contracts.

The Role of Compatibility

Jaya Bachchan, who has been married to superstar Amitabh Bachchan for over five decades, further highlighted that her generation was unable to "experiment," but modern couples should base their relationships on a strong foundation of mutual understanding.

In a past discussion on Navya's podcast, she also spoke about the importance of physical compatibility for a lasting bond, underscoring her progressive take on modern romance. Her latest comments reflect a desire for her granddaughter to live life autonomously, free from traditional expectations.

Her bold statement has ignited a significant discussion on social media and across mainstream media, with many applauding her for embracing the evolution of relationships, while others continue to debate the value of the traditional marriage structure.
