No release of Padmaavat in Gujarat: CM Rupani:

Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani announced that Sanjay Leela Bhansali's controversial film Padmaavat, earlier called Padmavati, will not release in the state on January 25.

The film, mired in controversy over its plot line, has been cleared by the Central Board of Film Certification, which has asked its makers to change the title and suggested other modifications.


The period romance that features Shahid Kapoor, Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone in lead roles was earlier scheduled to be released on December 1.

Earlier, Rajasthan CM Vasundhara Raje said that the movie would not be released in the state, honouring the sentiments of the people of the state.

Salman Khan Issued Supreme Court Notice On Acquittal In Chinkara Poaching Case Actor Salman Khan was today issued notice by the Supreme Court on an appeal by the Rajasthan government challenging his acquittal in two poaching cases. In July, the Rajasthan High Court found the 50-year-old actor not guilty of killing an endangered species of gazelle or chinkara in two separate incidents in 1998 while he was shooting a film in the desert state. The state government challenged his acquittal; it wants him to be imprisoned to serve the rest of his sentence - after being convicted in 2007 for hunting down and killing the chinkaras, he was awarded a one-year prison term and a five-year prison term respectively. He then spent a week in jail in Jodhpur before being granted bail. While finding him not guilty, the High Court had said there was no evidence to prove that the animals who were found dead were shot by Mr Khan's licensed gun. Ra 1 makes approx 14.63 crore at the box office on Day 1 of release Ra.One will not set a new first day record as the final day 1 collections coming in are well off record pace especially in North and Central India. In March 2002, Malik came to me during the Asian Test championship final between Pakistan and Sri Lanka at Lahore. He asked me if I could help publish the news of his nikah with a girl settled in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia (follow link for details of Ayesha in Jeddah). I emailed the news to a friend in Arab News and the story came out the following day. Malik thanked me, saying that her family had seen the story.
