Rajasthan, MP & Gujarat Ban Padmaavat Release

After Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat Shut the Door on Padmaavat
Meanwhile, due to face assembly elections later this year, the ruling BJP perhaps is no mood to irk influential Rajputs in Madhya Pradesh which is against any screening of the movie which according to them depicts Rajput queen Padmavati in poor light and degrades her dignity.

It seems a change of title and other alternations have failed to change the fortunes of noted filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmaavat which now awaits release on Jan 25 as, after Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh too has declined to allow the screening of the movie-perhaps one of the most controversial in the Bollywood.

Speaking to the media, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Friday made it clear that the movie Padmaavat won’t release in MP. On being asked by the media about the screening of Padmaavat, the CM hinted after attending the Surya Namaskar event said that the ban earlier placed on the movie would continue. “Jo kaha hai wahi hoga (whatever I said earlier would continue to remain in force), said the Chief Minister.

Following Chouhan's suit, Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani has also denied the release of the film in his state. In a statement the newly elected CM said, "Gujarat will nor release Padmaavat", causing a major setback to Sanjay Leela Bhansali's magnum opus.

Earlier in November 2017, following vehement cries of dissent from the Rajput community led by Karni Sena, CM Chouhan had disallowed screening of Padmaavati even before the Censor Board of Film Certification (CBFC) took any the final call on the certification of the movie saying the movie ‘tampers with the history’.

Despite hectic efforts from the movie makers to allay fears of tampering of history in the movie, Karni Sena members pressed for an absolute ban on the film in MP as elsewhere. After lengthy deliberations with the CBFC, the makers of the movie have altered the title to Padmaavat.

Meanwhile, due to face assembly elections later this year, the ruling BJP perhaps is no mood to irk influential Rajputs in Madhya Pradesh which is against any screening of the movie which according to them depicts Rajput queen Padmavati in poor light and degrades her dignity.

MP government already has announced an award in the honour of queen Padmavati which would be given away in the field of women empowerment. Besides, the state government plans to establish a monument in the memory of the braveheart queen.
