Aditya Chopra With Rani Mukherjee at Hiroo Johar Birthday Party

Their relationship has invited much speculation in the past but despite intense pressure, they have never publicly confirmed any of it.

In fact, if anything, Rani Mukerji has periodically chosen to deny her proximity to Aditya Chopra. But while Adi is known for the inordinate measures he takes to keep his private life just that, a public appearance with his lady love seemed just out of the question. That is, till last Wednesday.

The occasion was the birthday of Hiroo Johar, Karan Johar’s mother. The get together at a South Mumbai hotel was a very low key affair with just close friends in attendance. Adi was the special guest that night. And who should he choose to have on his arm when he made his appearance, than the now equally reclusive Rani Mukerji?

Gone was the furtiveness, the who-us? pretention. In its place was a deep comfort level that was visible to all present. Says an eye witness, “Rani and Adi came in together and looked very much a couple.

They walked in just before midnight and sat down for dinner next to each other. It’s a clear public statement that Rani is indeed his girlfriend. It was quite unlike Adi, but he seemed quite relaxed as he chatted with the other guests.”

Among others present was Karan’s best friend Kaajal Anand. Apparently Shah Rukh also wanted to attend the party but wasn’t in the city that night.

Says another source, “Forget being seen with Rani, Adi doesn’t like to be seen in public even by himself. He has been dating Rani for nearly three years now but never has he made a public appearance with her by his side.”
