In a powerful display of diplomatic prowess, former UN Under-Secretary-General, Shashi Tharoor, delivered a scathing critique of Pakistan's role in cross-border terrorism from Columbia, effectively dismantling Islamabad's carefully constructed international image. Leading an all-party Indian delegation on a global outreach mission, Tharoor minced no words, emphasizing India's unwavering commitment to combating te##orism and its right to self-defense.
Tharoor's no-holds-barred approach from an international platform like Columbia has resonated widely, reinforcing India's stance on global terrorism and leaving Islamabad's claims significantly undermined on the world stage.

Tharoor's remarks came during a diplomatic outreach aimed at clarifying India's position following "Operation Sindoor," India's recent counter-terrorism strikes on terror launchpads. His sharpest condemnation was directed at the Colombian government's expression of "heartfelt condolences on the loss of lives in Pakistan after the Indian strikes," which he deemed deeply disappointing and a misplaced gesture.
"We were a little disappointed in the reaction of the Colombian government, which apparently expressed heartfelt condolences on the loss of lives in Pakistan after the Indian strikes, rather than sympathizing with the victims of te##orism," Tharoor stated unequivocally. He stressed that there can be "no equivalence between those who dispatch te##orists and those who resist them. There can be no equivalence between those who a**ack and those who defend."
He highlighted that India's actions, including Operation Sindoor, were purely retaliatory and a response to the grievous terrorist attack in Pahalgam on April 22, which claimed 26 lives. Tharoor underscored that despite global condemnation, no action was taken by Pakistan against the perpetrators. "India decided that this kind of outrage could not go unpunished," he asserted, explaining the necessity of India's pre-emptive strikes.

During his address, Tharoor presented concrete evidence of Pakistan's complicity in supporting te##orism, including photographs of uniformed Pakistani military and police personnel attending the funerals of designated te##rists. "This is the country that now says we are innocent. We did not do it. You do not mourn for people you do not know," he remarked, exposing the hypocrisy of Pakistan's claims.

Tharoor also touched upon the Indus Waters Treaty, reiterating India's generous stance as an upper riparian state while clarifying that the current suspension of the treaty's operations is a direct consequence of Pakistan's continued support for terrorism. He made it clear that India's quarrel is solely with the "perpetration of terror against us," not with Pakistan's development or its ties with other nations like China.
The veteran diplomat's forceful articulation in Columbia is part of a broader, multi-nation outreach by an Indian all-party delegation. The mission aims to dispel misunderstandings, counter Pakistan's narrative, and garner international support for India's zero-tolerance approach to terrorism. Tharoor emphasized that India's actions are rooted in a principle of deterrence, not aggression, and that a cessation of hostilities by Pakistan would eliminate the need for further retaliation.
