Dangal has taken the second best opening of the year after Sultan which is the only bumper opening across the country in 2016. The openings of Sultan and Dangal are on the expected lines and the surprises of the year have been M.S. Dhoni - The Untold Story and Baaghi, these are the stand outs as they opened better than one would have before the campaigns of the films were launched. M.S. Dhoni - The Untold Story had no face value as far as actors are concerned but it had the brand value of cricketer M.S. Dhoni attached to it. The Baaghi initial in multiplexes and single screens outside the big metros was outstanding and was ahuge plus for Tiger Shroff and Shraddha Kapoor. The Khans have the top positions with M.S Dhoni splitting them. The final standings for initials in 2016 is as follow
1. Sultan - 70% (4350 Screens)
2. Dangal - 55% (4100 screens) (Hindi)
3. M.S. Dhoni - The Untold Story - 50% (3800 screens) (Hindi)
4. Fan - 42.5% (3400 Screens)
5. Rustom - 40% (2350 screens)
6. Baaghi - 37.5% (2700 Screens)
7. Ae Dil Hai Mushkil - 35% (2850 screens)
8. Housefull 3 - 32.5% (3600 Screens)
9. Dishoom - 30% (3000 screens)
10. Airlift - 27.5% (2000 Screens)
Note - These occupancy are for morning shows before noon only and do not reflect how the final day will end up as the trend is sometimes different in the evening. If the occupancy is the same then it is differentiated by the screen count with the higher screen count given benefit.
