Rani's the Man

Rani Mukerji plays a sardar in Yash Raj's next along with Shahid Kapur. The yet untitled film is directed by Anurag Singh and is revolves around a local cricket team. Sources reveal that the film's plot has shades of another Hollywood film based on the same premise.

Not an exact remake

The 2006 Amanda Bynes film titled She's The Man revolves around soccer and has the actress dress up like a man to enter the local team. Both the films are romantic comedies with sport as the backdrop. A source reveals, "Even though it isn't an exact remake, there are many similarities between the two films. In both films, the female protagonist dresses up like a man and tries to enter the local sports team. Also, the chemistry between Shahid and Rani develops after she joins his cricket team." Shahid and Rani recently shot for a few scenes where the actress wore a pagdi and dressed up as a sardar. It is learnt that while the Hollywood film had the actress having a twin brother, the Rani-Shahid film has been tweaked. "There is no twin brother. In stead, Rani dresses up as a man and enters Shahid's team to prove that she can also play as well as the men." When contacted Aashish Singh, VP: Productions at Yash Raj, denied the similarities between the two and said, "there is no truth to this at all."

What She's the Man is about

She's the Man is about Viola Hastings, a girl who's passion is soccer. She then finds out that the Girl's Soccer Program gets cancelled at her school. She then tries out for the guy's team, but they tell her that girls aren't good enough. So when Viola finds out that her twin brother, Sebastian is sneaking off to London, Viola decides that she can take his place, and pretend to be him, to be able to try out for their soccer team.
