Shashi Taroor's Ex-First Wife Tilottama Mukherji (or Tilottama Tharoor) , is a New York-based academic.   Tilottama is currently a professor of humanities at   New York University .  She is known to be a prominent figure in intellectual circles in both Kolkata and New York. Shashi Taroor and Tilottama Mukherji  met during their college years at St. Stephen’s in Delhi. They  married in 1981 and later divorced. They have two sons, Kanishk Tharoor and   Ishaan Tharoor. Kanishk and Ishaan are Twins.
