Farah Khan: Deepika has changed a lot since ‘Om Shanti Om’
While Deepika Padukone was a successful model endorsing several brands and walking for the biggest designers, it was Farah Khan who gave her a dream debut. Farah cast an inexperienced and raw Deepika as 'Shanti Priya' in 'Om Shanti Om' opposite none other than Shah Rukh Khan, a debut for which many people dream of!
Nine years later, Farah Khan spoke about Deepika, and how proud she is of everything the actress has achieved. Talking to Neha Dhupia on her podcast show '#NoFilterNeha' about Deepika during 'Om Shanti Om' the filmmaker said, "Deepika in 'Om Shanti Om' was a very different person and Deepika in 'Happy New Year' was a very different person. When she was in 'Om Shanti Om', she was completely raw and she was all in awe. She would hardly speak. She would do everything but she was very nervous and literally we had to coach her - look left, look right, look up, look down, say it like that."
"In 'Happy New Year', she was very confident. She had also become a fabulous actor. She got confidence in her acting abilities because after 'Om Shanti Om', she did various movies and I would look at the movies and think why is she wasting herself doing these movies and she's worthy of a lot more. Till "Cocktail" came and suddenly I was like 'Oh, Okay!'"
Deepika has always maintained that she will forever be indebted to Farah and Shah Rukh for her career. She said that when Farah offered her 'Happy New Year' she didn't even ask her the story of the film because she was so eager to work with her and SRK again. Kudos to the actress, she truly made the most of the opportunity given to her.
