Many of A.R. Rahman's fans asked, " Who is Saira Banu?" After hearing the news of his separation from his wife, Zaira Banu, they were unaware of her personal life or family background. Although they knew that she was A.R. Rahman's wife, Saira, and AR Rahman have always kept their family life and charity activities private, and Rahman also liked it that way.

In March 1995, A.R. Rehman and Saira got married. His mother found Saira a bride for Rahman. Saira first met A.R. Rahman's mother and sister at a dargah in Chennai. Then, he talked to them and proceeded with the marriage proposal.

Saira Banu's family roots are in Gujarat. Saira was born in December 1973 in Kutch, Gujarat. A.R. Zaira is seven years younger than Rahman. Rehman makes Saira his life partner at the age of 28. Saira was 22 at that time. Saira Banu belongs to a wealthy family with roots in Gujarat. Saira's sister Mehrunisa is married to famous actor Rahman. Their marriage was in 1993.

A.R. Rehman-Saira couple have three children. Singers Khadija Rahman, A.R. Amin, Raheema Rahman.

Saira Banu was active in various charity activities while being the wife of a prominent music director. She led many charitable activities in the field of education and health.
