West Bengal Election Results 2026: Defiant Mamata Banerjee Refuses to Resign, Alleges Physical Assault and 'EVM Loot'

‘I Will Not Resign’: Defiant Mamata Banerjee Alleges Foul Play Amid Tense 2026 Election Results

KOLKATA — In a political standoff that has sent shockwaves through the country, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has broken her silence following the 2026 Assembly Election trends. Despite early numbers suggesting a historic shift in the state's power dynamics, a visibly firebrand Banerjee has declared she has no intention of stepping down.

'I Will Not Resign': Mamata Banerjee Calls CEC a 'Villain' as BJP Sweeps Bengal; TMC Supremo Vows to Fight On

Addressing a frantic press conference in Kolkata, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo remained adamant that the emerging results do not reflect the true will of the people.

"We have not been defeated. This is not a verdict of the people; it is a verdict of the machinery. I will not resign. I did not lose," Banerjee stated, her voice echoing the familiar defiance that has defined her decades-long career.

'The Villain of the Piece'

The Chief Minister did not hold back in her criticism of the Election Commission of India (ECI). She specifically targeted Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar, labeling him the "villain" of the 2026 electoral process. Banerjee alleged that the Commission acted as a direct arm of the central government, facilitating what she termed "nasty, mischievous games."

“Our fight was not against the BJP; it was against the Election Commission,” she charged. “They systematically replaced our officers with their own people and deleted 90 lakh names from the voter list. This was a scripted attempt to loot the mandate.”

Shocking Allegations of Physical Assault

In perhaps the most startling claim of the day, Mamata Banerjee alleged that she was personally targeted and manhandled during the final hours of polling and counting. She described a chaotic scene at a polling station where she claimed she was "dragged and pushed out" by BJP agents and central forces.

“They think they can intimidate me with physical force,” she said. “BJP candidates entered with 200 CRPF personnel and outside goons to beat up our people. When I went to protect my workers, I was shoved and insulted. Is this how democracy works? By manhandling a woman Chief Minister?”

A Warning of 'One-Party Rule'

Banerjee framed the current election results as a symptom of a larger national crisis. She warned that the BJP’s ultimate goal is to establish a "one-party rule" across India, effectively turning the country into a monolithic state where regional identities are erased.

“They want to destroy our culture and our pride. They want one party, one leader, and no questions. But they forget—Bengal does not bow down,” she told the crowd.

The Constitutional Standoff

As counting continues and the BJP nears the majority mark, the atmosphere in Bengal remains incredibly tense. While the BJP has slammed her refusal to resign as "constitutional blasphemy" and a "post-poll tantrum," Banerjee insists she is now a "free bird" dedicated to strengthening the national INDIA bloc.

With 63% of her cabinet reportedly trailing or defeated, including her own seat in Bhabanipur to Suvendu Adhikari, the Chief Minister is facing her toughest political winter yet. However, by refusing to head to Raj Bhavan, she has signaled that the 2026 election may not end at the ballot box, but in a multi-pronged legal and street-level battle.
